  • Basara Dance Festival 2019 in Nara. Come and join us!

    Do you like Dance?

    Japanese people like dance and often dance in various festivals all over the country.

     

    In Nara, Basara Dance festiveal is the one.

    This festival has started in 1999 and operated only by volunteers for 20 years.

    It is held in the hot summer season, but this festival is packed with people’s passion, dance love, power and energy. Way hotter than the sun.

    In 2019, the festival is held on Saturday, the 24th August and Sunday the 25th August.

    This year 33 dance groups gathers from mainly Kansai area(Nara, Kyoto, Osaka…) and particiapate the festival.

    You can see their dances in the famous touristic spots like Todaiji Temple, Kasugataisha Shrine and Heijo Palace. Dancing in Todaiji temple and Kasugataisha Shrine is to devote their dances to the Great Buddha and the deities.

    Besides it, the highlight of this festival is the dance parade in on Sanjo Street on Sunday the 25th Aug. Sanjo Street is the main street connecting JR Nara Station and Kintetsu Nara Station.

    Here is the festival schedule in 2019.

    Saturday, the 24th August

    12:00 ~ 15:20 Flag parade in the approach to Kasugataisha Shrine.

    13:30 ~ 14:30 Dance dedication in Thumon (the middle gate in front of the Great Buddha)

    14:00 ~ 16:10 Dance dedication in Tobihino, Kasugataisha Shrine precinct.

    15:00 ~18:00 Dance in the main stage in Nara Park. (in opposite side of Nara prefectural government office)

    17:00 ~ 18:00 Dance in the stage in Heijo Palace.

     

    Sunday, the 25th August

    11:00 ~ 12:30 Dance dedication in Thumon (the middle gate in front of the Great Buddha)

    11:00 ~ 14:10 Dance in front of JR Nara station.

    12:00 ~ 16:10 Dance parade in Sanjo Street.

    14:00 ~ 20:00 Dance, flag performance and finale in the main stage in Nara Park.

    If you want to join dancing, you are very welcome to participate the Basara Dance on the 25th August!

    To entry, please see the following details.

    -Date: 10:00 ~ 10:30, Sunday the 25th August.

    -Place: in front of the main office of Nara Prefectural government. (Address: 30 Noborioji tyo, Nara City)

    -Entry fee: Adult: 3,000 JPY, younger than 18 yrs old: 1,500JPY *Entry fee includes a Basara original T-shirts.

    -Lunch and water: Please bring your own.

    -Time duration of dance: 5minutes at a time.

    -Approximate time to finish: 17:30

     

    Practice dancing together for 1 hour, and then enjoy dancing in the parade!
