I extend my warmest greetings and a touch of nostalgia as I share a collection of moments from Yoshino, captured a bit earlier than intended. While the vibrant peak of autumn has gracefully faded away, I invite you to consider these glimpses as hints for your next journey to Okusenbon area in Yoshino.

The Okusenbon area, located at the far end of Yoshino in the autumn leaves season, is a recommended place to enjoy autumn with few people, quiet nature and moderate hiking.

There are many places to visit in the OkuSenbon area, including Saigyoan Hermitage, Kinpu Shrine and Yoshitsune’s Hidden Pagoda.

Spectacular autumn foliage: During the autumn season, the mountains of Okuyoshino are decorated with breathtaking foliage.

The area around Saigyoan is particularly attractive with its enchanting scenery of vibrant autumn leaves.

experience away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Few people come to this area to enjoy nature, birds singing and leaves rustling in the wind in a tranquil setting.

Historical and cultural significance: Saigyoan is steeped in ancient history and culture. Named after the famous poet Saigyo, it has historical significance as the place where he once practised and composed poetry.

 

It is a moderate hike and suitable for hikers of all levels.

Hiking TimeDuration: On average, the hike to Saigyoan, the innermost part of the trail, takes about 2 to 3 hours from Yoshino Station.

Points of Outstanding Beauty: The trail has many beautiful spots, including spectacular viewpoints overlooking the valley and opportunities to capture the vibrant autumn colours on camera.

Hiking Difficulty: The trail to Saigyoan is well maintained and easy to walk. Some parts can be a bit steep. Proper hiking shoes and equipment are recommended for comfort and safety.

Access by car :

From Kyoto – about a two-hour drive.

From Nara – about 1.5 hour drive.
