Overview

Koyasan – Sakurai – Ise-Shima

Japanese Shintoism has a strong connection with sun worship because ancient Japanese people valued rice cultivation, which relied on the power of the sun.

The route of the sun, which shifts on the vernal and autumnal equinoxes, is represented in Japan by an ancient route known as the “Taiyo no Michi” (“Path of the Sun”), upon which important sacred sites were said to have been constructed long ago.

Go on a journey to unravel the ancient mysteries of the sun’s path in the Kii Peninsula, concluding at the Ise Jingu Shrine, where Amaterasu, the Sun Goddess, is enshrined.

  1. DAY1

    You are heading to Koyasan.
Koyasan is a sacred place for Buddhism in Japan, and is also deeply connected with Shugendo, the ancient Japanese mountain religion. You are staying in a temple and join the monks in their ascetic practices, such as zazen meditation and an early morning Goma ceremony.
You may begin to see the lives of the Japanese who have lived with gratitude and respect for nature.
  2. DAY2

Follow the path of the sun.
Experience the Oomiwa Shrine, the god of sake and one of the oldest shrines in Japan, as well as sake.
Overnight in an old private house serving freshly harvested vegetables .
We will guide you to accommodation where you can experience the 'lifestyle' of the Japanese people. Enjoy a dinner with the full range of local produce.
  3. DAY3

We will take you to Ise-Jingu Shrine where the sun god is enshrined in Japan. It is also the origin of Japanese "travel."
There are also places to enjoy local gourmet food in the area, and there are many ways to spend your time. After enjoying a leisurely stroll, head to a seaside accommodation. We suggest a time when you can refresh your mind and body.
  4. DAY4

Experience the culture of ama divers in Ise-Shima, and head to Nagoya Station or Chubu Centrair Airport.
Ama divers are people who dive and fish for abalone and other shellfish and seaweed. Dive with them and try your hand at fishing. After fishing, you will have dinner with ama divers while listening to their stories about ama culture.
