OVERVIEW

The Kumano Kodo, situated at the heart of the Kii Peninsula, has historically evolved as a pilgrimage route encompassing the Kumano Hayatama Taisha, Kumano Nachi Taisha, and Kumano Hongu Taisha shrines, drawing pilgrims from various regions. It is traditionally held that Kumano Hayatama Taisha purifies the sins of one’s previous life, Nachi Taisha forges the bonds of the present existence, and Hongu Taisha grants salvation for the life to come. Pilgrimage to the three sacred Kumano mountains is believed to bestow tranquility across past, present, and future realms. Since antiquity, numerous individuals have traversed the Kumano Kodo to pay homage to these revered shrines.

This 5-days tour offers an opportunity to unravel the ancient Japanese spiritual beliefs while visiting these hallowed sites.

  1. DAY1

On the first day, you will travel from Tokyo Haneda Airport to Nanki-Shirahama, Wakayama. In less than an hour you will be in the Kii Peninsula - a region known for its natural beauty and spiritual heritage.

*Please note: The auction experience is unavailable on days when the port is closed. For details, consult the concierge.

Next, you will be guided to Kamikura Shrine. After climbing 538 steep stone steps to the shrine, you will reach a massive sacred boulder. Here, your guide will offer insights into the religious perspectives and spiritual traditions of the Japanese people. The highlight of the day is the Kumano Kodo trail. You will ascend the beautifully paved Daimonzaka slope, passing through Kumano Nachi Taisha and Seiganto-ji Temple, aiming for Nachi Falls—the most popular route. The stone steps from the Daimonzaka entrance to Kumano Nachi Taisha are uphill, but the distance is a relatively short 1.3 km and takes around 40 minutes. The moss-covered steps and towering cedar trees create the perfect Kumano Kodo mystical ambience.

Afterward, you will enjoy a cruise through a grand gorge. This canyon was carved deep by downward erosion into rock hardened by the heat of magma, with some spots reaching depths of over 20 meters. The considerable depth of the water results in a gentle current, and the mirror-like surface enhances the gorge’s natural beauty with its serene reflections.

    Visit to a Tea Farm
You will visit Nacchan’s tea fields, where she took over the family tea farm at a young age.
