OVERVIEW

This is a 3-Day tour that takes you to Mt. Koya and the remote village of Nosegawa in Nara. Koyasan is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites in Japan, and it is the ideal way to experience the essence of Japanese Buddhism first hand. After your pilgrimage to Mt. Koya is complete, we’ll visit the hidden village of Nosegawa in Nara Prefecture for day two. We have prepared programs that allow you to fully immerse yourself in nature and experience the charm of rural Japan. It’s a perfect tour for those who want to experience the essence of Japan.

    We will head to Mt. Koya and check into a temple lodging called "shukubo." Many temples in Koyasan offer accommodation to pilgrims and have become popular among international tourists who wish to experience temple life and the rituals of Shingon Esoteric Buddhism. At the shukubo, you can participate in meditation sessions and experience shojin-ryori, the vegetarian cuisine adhered to by Buddhist monks. It's a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the daily practices and discipline of the monks.

    You will start the day by participating in the morning ritual with the monks. The Goma fire ritual is an important practice in Shingon Buddhism, performed daily to activate the mind and purify the spirit. After breakfast, we willnotable attractions such as Kongobuji Temple. Then, heading to Nosegawa Village. You can enjoy the magnificent nature of Nosegawa Village, which has an average elevation of 700 meters. For those who are interested, there is an option to walk a portion of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trail, specifically the Kohechi Route. After rejuvenating yourself at a hot spring, indulge in local cuisine made with the bounties of the beautiful rivers and mountains of the area.

    For those interested, we will guide you on an early morning tour to see the sea of clouds. Nosegawa Village is well-known for its frequent occurrences throughout the year. If we are fortunate enough to witness the sea of clouds, we can guarantee it'll be a memory that will last a lifetime. We will visit Tateriko Shrine, located at an elevation of 1,260 meters. You can enjoy a stunning panoramic view, feel the refreshing breeze even in the midst of summer, and pass through a precious forest of cedar and birch trees before reaching the main shrine to offer your prayers. Afterwards, we will return to Nara Station, concluding the tour.
