OVERVIEW

Nara Prefecture is a beautiful area with many unknown walking and hiking courses.
The Katsuragi Kodo Path is an ancient road that passes through Gose City and is considered a fairly unknown course. It runs along the base of both Mt. Katsuragi and Mt. Kongo, and is famous for being the original setting for Japanese mythological stories.
Enjoy the many historical shrines and temples along the way, as well as a traditional “shoyu,” (soy sauce) brewery and tofu shop! The tour offers an easy-going walk and a relaxed time in the rural countryside away from crowded areas. An interesting tour of the shoyu storehouse and a tofu tasting activity are also included! On the second day, you’ll meet your guide who will show you Koyasan, a destination that’s quite popular among tourists.
Enjoy learning about Japanese spirituality and culture on this life-changing adventure!

  1. DAY01

Start your tour from the Kazenomori bus stop and walk along a peaceful countryside road to the Takagamo-jinja Shrine. It’s said that the Takagamo-jinja Shrine is the origin of Kamo-jinja Shrines all over Japan, such as the Kamigamo-jinja and Shimogamo-jinja Shrines in Kyoto. Beautiful cedar trees and a sacred peaceful atmosphere fill the precincts of the shrine. The highlight of today is a special visit to the Katakami Soy Sauce Brewery! When entering the storehouse, you’ll see huge wooden vats made of Japanese cedar. The traditional soy sauce making process requires two years, or two full cycles of the seasons in these cedar vats. On this tour, you’ll get a special chance to peek into a huge vat from above and learn about the intricate brewing process.
The duration of the tour is approximately 6 hours, which includes a peaceful walk, the Katakami Soy Sauce Brewery tour, and lunch.
At night, you’ll stay at the Yanaseya, a cozy accommodation made from a renovated traditional Japanese style house. Enjoy the spectacular food made by a Michelin Star Japanese chef who cooks using fresh vegetables from the local area.
  2. DAY02

Get ready to explore Koyasan, a popular destination that attracts tourists from all over the world! In Koyasan, each season has its own special characteristics, so there is something to enjoy all-year-round! Meet your guide and have fun visiting Kongobu-ji Temple and Okuno-in Temple. You’ll even get to try a Buddhist vegetarian meal at one of the temples for lunch called, “shojin ryori.” Please keep in mind that it takes approximately 2 hours from Koyasan to Nara City. Let us know if you’d like to transfer to Osaka or Kyoto and we’ll arrange your departure accordingly. Thank you for traveling with us and we hope to see you again!
