Yamanobe-no-Michi trail Passes

The Yamanobe-no-Michi Trail pass is part of the oldest road in Japan and is mentioned in the Kojiki and Nihonshoki, the two oldest books – written in the 7th and 8th century – that record the history of Japan.

Yamanobe-no-Michi  is a wonderful passage through some of Nara’s most historic areas.

Shinto Shrines (Isonokami Jingu shrine, Omiwa Jinja shrine) , temples (Chogakuji-temple) and ancient burial mounds are scattered along both sides of the road, giving visitors a sense of Japan’s ancient culture and history.

Isonokami Jingu shrine and Ohmiwa Jinja shrine are among the oldest Shinto shrines in Japan.

The route from Isonokami Jingu shrine to Omiwa Jinja shine takes three to four hours (about 11 km ) including stops and it has cafés, rest areas and unmanned roadside vegetable and fruit stalls.

Unmanned roadside stalls in rural areas offer a unique and charming experience for visitors. These stalls, sometimes found along countryside roads, are stocked with fresh produce such as fruits and vegetables, homemade goods, and sometimes even local crafts. What makes them appealing is their simplicity and authenticity.

You can enjoy the pleasure of shopping directly from the source, often at very reasonable prices, while also supporting local farmers and artisans.

Customers simply leave their payment in a designated box or container – a system based on trust in human honesty. This adds to the sense of community and mutual reliance in rural areas.

This is a place where you can enjoy the countryside and a relaxed atmosphere. There are few ups and downs, so it can be enjoyed as a casual walk rather than a hike. We encourage you to take your time and explore this beautiful path at a leisurely pace.
